Natural Gas Technology (NGT) from Mercedes-Benz is a BlueEFFICIENCY technology with exceptionally low emissions and high cost savings potential.
With the bivalent drive Sprinter NGT, you can switch from natural gas drive to petrol drive and back again at the touch of a button. Thanks to this ability to operate in two modes, the drive system is suitable both for urban and inter-urban deployment.
The monovalent version of the Sprinter NGT is considered a mono-fuel natural-gas vehicle.
The mono-fuel Sprinter NGT earns points in particular in the urban environment. The petrol in the downsized fuel tank (< 15 l) only serves for starting off and as an emergency reserve. The switch is automatic and cannot be influenced by the driver.
Both NGT variants build a large lead when it comes to fuel costs: In Germany, for example, the savings when using natural gas (Compressed Natural Gas, CNG for short) over a comparable quantity of diesel fuel amount to about 25% (as of: January 2013). In Europe tax benefits, subsidies and other benefits, such as e.g. reduced insurance premiums, can differ depending on the country.
