You can choose from a great number of different petrol engines for the C-Class. The entry-level version comes in the guise of the particularly efficient 4-cylinder models, the C 180 CGI BlueEFFICIENCY, the C 200 CGI BlueEFFICIENCY and the C 250 CGI BlueEFFICIENCY.
The development theme of this latest-generation 4-cylinder engines – increasing performance and reducing consumption – has been followed with purpose and determination and, thanks to BlueEFFICIENCY technology and measures, it has been possible to reduce fuel consumption considerably compared with the corresponding previous model. And this has been accomplished without loss of output, for the acceleration figures impress from the very first metre. Thus, the C 180 CGI BlueEFFICIENCY requires a mere 9.0 seconds to sprint from a standstill to 100 km/h on its way to its top speed of up to 220 km/h. The C 200 CGI BlueEFFICIENCY accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 8.2 seconds and attains a maximum speed of 232 km/h. In terms of acceleration and consumption, the C-Class engines really set standards.
The C 180 CGI BlueEFFICIENCY and the C 200 CGI BlueEFFICIENCY are, additionally, fitted with the ECO start/stop function (in conjunction with 6-speed manual transmission). This function helps to reduce fuel consumption and the vehicle’s emissions by switching off the engine when the vehicle is at, or rolling to, a standstill. Thanks to the new operating logic, as soon as the clutch is fully depressed the engine starts up again automatically.
